Certified Professional Engineer (P.Eng)
During the my time in industry, I acquired the professional engineer's designation in my home province of New Brunswick, which is transferable across Canada. This designation was given on the basis of my B.Sc.E, and experience gained both in industry and my M.Sc.E.
Computational Geometry Software Development
Between 2004 and 2009, I worked for CARIS (Universal Systems Ltd.) a software development company that specializes in underwater Geographic Information Systems. As with any GIS, a key aspect is working with geometry (detecting relationships, modifying geometric shapes/elements, etc.). I worked in the computational geometry group and was the primary maintainer of the triangular irregular network (TIN) library used by the company to represent underwater terrains. Of special note is the work I did to compute the uncertainty of interpolated points in a terrain. Besides developing new features and maintaining existing ones, my role involved interacting regularly with product development teams to ensure that our new features and fixes suited the customer's needs. Through this industrial experience and the experience gained in my M.Sc.E degree, I acquired the designation of Professional Engineer (P.Eng) from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick. Since working at ViTRAK Systems, I have moved my membership to the analogous association on Prince Edward Island.
